Security Key Information: 'What is a security key?'

A Form-U-Share Security Key is a USB device that is used to protect the Form-U-Share Licensing Agreement. In order for Form-U-Share to run on your computer, it must be connected to a security key - either a key plugged into your computer or another computer through the network.

A security is a small USB device that will either be bright green or light gray with a blue border around the edge. It is approximately the same size of a USB Flash Drive, but the Security does not store files like a Flash Drive. You cannot use the key to transfer data between computers.

The easiest way to use a security key is to plug it into a free USB port on your computer, and run Form-U-Share. If multiple users (or computers) on a network need to run Form-U-Share and you do not want to have a single Security Key for every computer, you may use a Multi-User networked Security Key. This key can be installed into a Windows Server or Workstation, and shared across the network. The computer the key is plugged into will need to be setup to share its key across the network. If you have a green Security Key, you will need to install Form-U-Share and run the Security Key Installation Wizard BEFORE you plug the Security Key into your computer. This can be done, if Form-U-Share is already installed on the computer, by clicking the windows Start Button | All Programs | Form-U-Share | Security Key | Install Security Key. This will launch the Security Key Installation Wizard. Select USB under Security Key Type, and Server under Installation Type, then click Begin Install. When this finishes, click Close, and your computer is now ready to share its Security Key across the network.

NOTE: You may have to configure your Windows Firewall, or third-party firewall, to allow the other computers to communicate with this Security Key. To configure your Windows firewall automatically, you may run the 'Server Firewall Setup' batch file located on the installation CD. To set up your Windows or third-party firewall manually, simply add UDP port 4242 to your firewall's port exception list, and add the klserver.exe program file (located in your Windows\System32 directory) to your firewall's program exception list.

If you are having problems with your Security Key, please see the troubleshooting topics in this forum.
